The Criminalization of Immigrants through Law and Media in the United States

This presentation examines the legal and policy process by which an increasing number of immigrants is being categorized as criminals and the policy consequences this classification has. It also includes the role of the media in cementing the association between immigrants and crime, priming the public to accept extreme policy decisions to deal with the ‘criminals’ that policies create.
