HOMInG aims to investigate migrants’ experience of home as exemplary of issues of broader theoretical, substantive and methodological interest. It does so through three complementary sub-projects on, respectively, Home-related cognitions and feelings (H1 – The ways of constructing home); Home-making everyday practices (H2 – The ways of emplacing home); The aggregate effects of migrant ways of “homing” on pre-existing home cultures and practices (H3 – The ways of circulating home). All of these concerns are crucial to (and relatively understudied in) migration studies. However, they also speak to the general debate on individuals’ potential to appropriate space and make it personal, meaningful and secure, in circumstances of increasing biographic discontinuity and relatively frequent mobility across European countries.
