At HOMInG seminar 21_18, Ghassan Hage (University of Melbourne) gave an insightful reinterpretation of a core concept of his thinking: domestication. Departing from the concept of “home” as a central phantasy of modern nationalism, he developed an interesting parallelism between dominant forms of racism and the ecological crisis. In connecting these two issues, Hage offered a lucid analysis of generalised domestication as a process of domination and management of otherness.
